What are AirNodes?

AirNodes are the antennas through which customers connect to WiFi or mobile networks.

  • Roles : Hosts provide the site, operators finance the hardware. A host can also be an operator.

  • Who can participate? Anyone worldwide can buy and operate an AirNode – no physical presence on site is required.

  • Management: Operators monitor devices and rewards via a real-time online dashboard.

  • Advantages: Hosts and operators work together to expand the decentralized, community-based network. Both earn rewards – some AirNodes offer fixed monthly payouts, others are based on local usage.
Where do the AirNode rewards come from?

Rewards come from subscriptions and customer revenue. The amount depends on the AirNode type and usage:

  • Fixed monthly payouts for certain models.
  • Variable rewards based on the number of connected users.

Currently (2025), average rewards are approximately $1.70 per month per Spark AirNode, depending on uptime and demand.

How do you operate an AirNode?
  • As an operator, you select a verified location via the World Mobile Explorer, agree on terms, purchase the device, and manage it remotely after installation.

  • NodeEmpire simplifies this process. Simply select how many you want to buy and we'll take care of the rest.

  • As a host, you provide a strategic location for World Mobile equipment and earn rewards based on the connections provided.
What is required to become a host?

You don't buy any equipment – the operators take care of that. You only need:

  • A suitable location.
  • Reliable power supply.
  • Occasional access for maintenance.

World Mobile checks and approves your location.

Why host an AirNode?

As a host, you earn rewards while providing reliable internet to your community. The more users in your area access it, the higher your earnings. You promote local growth and digital inclusion.

How much maintenance does an AirNode require?

Minimal! Monitor uptime and performance in the dashboard. If you experience any problems, contact us or World Mobile support.

What is the difference between CBRS, Band 71 and Wi-Fi AirNodes?

World Mobile uses three signals for connectivity:

  • Wi-Fi : For local, short-range use.
  • CBRS : Medium range, ideal for urban areas.
  • Volume 71 : Long range for rural areas.

Each type is suitable for different coverage needs.

When will my AirNode appear on the dashboard?

We plan to assign all AirNodes to their respective accounts every two weeks. The date is visible on the main page, and returns or cancellations are possible until then. After assignment, our options are limited.

How are AirNode rewards calculated and paid out?

Rewards are set by the World Mobile platform and are subject to change. Monthly payouts are made in fiat or stablecoins, depending on your settings. Note: Rewards are stable but not guaranteed – they depend on uptime, location, demand, and other factors.

Are AirNode earnings taxable?

Yes, possibly as income, depending on the country. Consult a tax advisor.

Can I cancel my AirNode order?

Yes. You can cancel your order at any time before the sale event ends. A full refund will be issued, minus standard processing or network fees. See our refund policy for details.
